Near Binocularity Test

Parent Previous Next

The binocularity test is displayed by selecting the corresponding button in the Secondary toolbar or by pressing 3 on the keyboard or remote.

The patient views the screen binocularly through the red and green filters. The entire field and the “black” letters are seen binocularly while the “green” and “red” letters are seen monocularly by the right and left eyes respectively. Thus, if a patient is suppressing their right eye they will read “AIN”, “ICK” etc. while a patient suppressing their left eye will read “CHA”, “BRI” etc. A binocular patient will of course read the complete word. Some degree of grading is possible by asking patients to read letters of decreasing size.
