Test phase 1

In Multi-stimulus Screening mode, between 2 and 4 stimuli are presented simultaneously at 5dB above the working threshold.  The patient is asked to report how many stimuli they detected.

In single screen mode, response buttons are shown below the fixation target.  The patient (or examiner) simply clicks on the appropriate response.

In dual screen mode, the positions of the stimuli are displayed on the control screen and the examiner clicks on the corresponding buttons on the control screen.  The control screen also displays the patterns of stimuli where the number identified was correct (green) and those where the number identified was incorrect (red). The current stimulus pattern is shown at the bottom of control screen.  The operator may skip to a particular pattern by clicking on the corresponding number in the stimulus pattern array.

If the patterns are presented in order, the program will automatically move on to Test Phase 2 when the last pattern in the series has been presented.  If the examiner chooses to skip any of the patterns, the program can be moved on to the next phase by clicking on Finish phase.

Test phase 2

Having presented all the stimuli in the stimulus set, the software then re-presents any patterns where the patient reported an incorrect number of stimuli.

Test phase 3

If the patient reports the number of stimuli incorrectly a second time, the software then presents each stimulus in these patterns individually to determine which stimuli were not detected.

Screening mode

If Screening mode has been selected, the software will simply record the location of any stimuli that were not detected at 5dB above the working threshold, but will make no attempt to further quantify the loss of sensitivity.

The report for tests conducted in screening mode simply show any stimuli which were not detected at 5dB above the working threshold (red) against a background of those detected (green).

Threshold mode

If Threshold mode has been selected, the software will attempt to quantify the loss of sensitivity for any stimuli identified during Test phase 3, by increasing the stimulus luminance in 1dB steps until the stimulus is seen (or the maximum luminance is reached).

The report for tests conducted in threshold mode shows any points not seen at 5dB above threshold appropriately colour coded (heat scale) depending on the depth of the scotoma.

Manually entering a response for individual stimuli

The response for individual stimuli may be entered manually by Right Clicking on the stimulus. This will display a panel next to the stimulus as shown below.  The examiner may then record if the stimulus was Seen or Not seen.  Th individual stimulus may be presented by clicking on Present. If a result is entered manually, this pattern will be exempted from Test phases 2 and 3.
