What are Coloured Overlays?

Coloured overlays are sheets of coloured plastic that are placed over a page of text when reading.

The optimum colour for an overlay can be quite precise and varies from one person to another. Therefore, when choosing an overlay it is important that there is an adequate range of overlay colours and that the overlays sample all the colours in a logical and systematic fashion.
Overlay Screening should only be undertaken by those with adequate training and experience.

Finding the best colour

A number of systems are available for determining who is likely to benefit from using a coloured overlay and which colour is optimum.

The Intuitive Overlay System, developed by Professor Arnold Wilkins, samples a wide range of colours in a systematic and logical manner. The colours have been carefully chosen and the system has been described in the scientific literature, and have been used in several published studies. The overlays are sold by IOO Sales Ltd.
