Near Chart 2000 is a computer program which allows a wide range of near vision tests to be performed on a PC. The software is used by Optometrists, Ophthalmologists, Orthoptists and other eye care professionals. Here is what the reviewers say:
“Near Chart 2000 brings near vision testing into the 21st century”
“Replace all those fading test types and assorted near vision units with one simple and easy to use program”
Near Chart 2000 will run on any PC running Windows 98 or later. The patient views the screen from their normal near viewing distance. The ideal way of achieving this is by using a Tablet PC (shown above) or a laptop, or by mounting a monitor on an arm so that it can be swung in front of the patient.

The tests
Customisable test types: Use the default reading charts or design your own. Change the text, the font, the range of font sizes and even the colour of the background and text.
Screen font size is adjusted to give actual font sizes for accurate assessment of near vision acuity.
Near LogMAR charts: At last - a sensible way to measure near visual acuity. Rows of text are arranged according to the logMAR arrangement.
Change the text, the font style, the contrast and even the colour of the text and the background.
Near task simulator: Get rid of all those scraps of newsapaper, telephone directories, yellow pages, music etc. in your consulting room and show them on the computer screen.
Wide range of tasks are included or add your own images.
Vary the magnification to assess your low vision patients.
Fixation disparity: Assess horizontal and vertical fixation disparity using the red/green visor supplied.
Unique test design provides excellent stimulus for accommodation and binocular lock.
Binocularity: Central letters seen with both eyes while letters on the left and right are seen by the right and left eyes respectively when viewed through the red and green visors.
Stereopsis: Use random dot stereograms to asssess steropsis. Dynamic generation of stereograms allows the disparity of the images to be adjusted to provide an accurate assessment of stereopsis.
Generate shapes or letters.
Amsler chart: The most versatile Amsler Chart ever! Complete control over the format of the chart (grid, vertical/ horizontal lines, dots), positive and negative contrast, choose any colour for the lines or background and adjust the size and spacing of grid. Range of fixation targets and more...
Even get the patient to draw on the chart directly and paste the image into the notes.

Tests for computer users: An increasing proportion of patients seen in practice use computers. Up until now, practitioners had to rely on a printed test card to assess their vision and determine the optimum prescription for viewing a computer screen. No longer! Near Chart 2000 includes a series of tests which simulate typical computers displays (word-processing, spreadsheets etc.) to allow a more realistic assessment of patients vision while they view a computer screen.
Other tests: Near Chart 2000 includes many other tests for assessing the Near Vision of patients including duochrome and near point of convergence.
