Visual field assessment requires careful control of the background and stimulus luminance.  As no two computer screens are the same, it is very important that the screen luminance is calibrated before testing is carried out.

The Digital Visual Fields Screener is supplied with a Spyder 5 photometer for calibrating the screen luminance.

Instructions to download the driver software for the Spyder are included with the unit.  The software should be installed and registered as outlined in the instructions.  The Spyder software can be used for conducting a general screen calibration.  While not absolutely necessary for the Digital Visual Fields Screener, this process generally improves the colour rendering of your screen.

To calibrate the screen luminance for the Digital Visual Fields Screener, select the Options tab at the top of the screen then click on Calibrate lum.

This will display the window shown below:

If the driver software has been installed correctly, the status will show as Spyder initialised.

To perform a luminance calibration, remove the cover over the Spyder sensor and hang the sensor over the panel labeled "PLACE SPYDER HERE" as shown below.

To commence the calibration procedure, dim the room lights and click on Measure.  The luminance of the panel will then be incremented from dark to light while measurements are acquired.  A graph of screen luminance as a function of Computer value will be displayed.

To save the results, click on Save.

To restore the calibration data to the default values, click on Default.
